StreetBase

StreetBase Youth Project

Our StreetBase project focuses on supporting young people aged 10-18 years old who are, directly or indirectly, affected by alcohol misuse or substance use. Our team of trained Detached Youth Development Workers currently cover Halfway and Fernhill.

The StreetBase project staff work for a minimum of three nights per week in each targeted area, predominately from Thursday to Sunday between the hours of 18:30 and 21:30. Their role is to engage with young people on the streets, in parks and in woodlands, who are involved (or at risk of being involved) in alcohol or substance use.

The focus of the project is to reduce harm in ‘harder to reach’ or ‘at risk’ groups of young people through support, intervention, prevention, and education. Our project staff effectively manage any challenging behaviours they are confronted with by breaking down barriers and forming long-term, trusted relationships with young people. In time, young people are encouraged take part in a wide range of informal and educational activities that provide opportunities for their personal and social development.

StreetBase is delivered on a consistent and ongoing basis throughout the year and has successfully brought about positive change in the lives of young people, their families and the communities of Lanarkshire since 2008.
